Car fire on M-14 near Ann Arbor, Michigan

Ann Arbor, Mich.– June 11: A lone, unidentified volunteer firefighter battles a wicked car fire on eastbound M-14 while waiting for fire trucks to arrive.

This brave firefighter, who arrived first on the scene in a car, probably belonged to the Ann Arbor Township Volunteer Fire Department.

At one point, the heat from a small explosion caused the firefighter to drop the fire extinguisher– only to go back for it and continue to battle the inferno.

THE LAST COLUMNIST came across this inferno coming back from the OTB parimutuel counter after placing a bet on the Belmont Stakes . These pictures were taken from the shoulder of the westbound lane of M-14.
